Accessing God through Christ is a central theme in our precious faith, emphasizing that Jesus acts as the “one mediator” who removes the spiritual barrier of sin between humanity and the Creator. So how do we do this?
1. Through Faith in His Sacrifice
- Justification by Faith: Access begins by placing personal trust in Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died and rose again. Believers are “justified by faith,” which establishes peace with God.
- The “New and Living Way”: Scripture describes Jesus’ death as tearing the “curtain” (or veil) that once separated people from God’s presence, opening a direct path through His sacrifice.
- Removal of Guilt: His blood is said to “purge the conscience,” allowing individuals to approach God without the weight of condemnation or shame.
2. Through His Role as High Priest and Mediator
- Intercession: Unlike the temporary high priests of the Old Testament, Jesus is viewed as a “Great High Priest” who lives forever to intercede (speak on behalf of) those who come to God through Him.
- Confidence at the Throne: Because Jesus understands human weakness yet remains sinless, believers are encouraged to approach the “throne of grace” with boldness and confidence to find help.
3. Practical Daily Connection
- Prayer in His Name: Jesus instructed followers to ask for things “in my name,” signifying that they come under His authority and merit rather than their own.
- Engagement with Scripture: Studying the Gospels is seen as a way to “see” the Father, as Jesus is described as the “express image” of the invisible God.
- Indwelling of the Holy Spirit: Access is maintained through the Holy Spirit, who dwells within believers, guiding their prayers and producing Christ-like character.
- Spiritual Fellowship: Participating in a community of believers (“the body of Christ”) is considered a way to experience and deepen one’s connection to God’s presence.
